New Windows!

I knew from the inspection before I bought the condo that the windows would need to be replaced soon. You see, the mechanism that held them open was broken, so when you pulled a window up and let it go, it slammed shut. I had my own little guillotines all around my place. At first I didn't think this was a huge deal- I would just use some sticks or what not to prop the windows open.

Looks Innocent enough, right?

The particular window above had a rotted sill, that had been removed and never replaced. This is a bad, bad thing because water could get in there and cause the wall to rot. No good!

More old windows!

Well, one week of really nice weather and I was ready for new windows. Between having to find things that could hold the weight of the windows, worrying that my cats would hurt themselves, and Franklin actually getting outside via one of the broken windows, I knew it was time.
In addition to the windows being annoying, they were original. So 35 years old. They had storm windows and  were not at all energy efficient. I could hear every little sound from outside.
I decided to go with windows from the Home Depot. They were a bit more expensive than I expected, but thats par for the course with house projects.
They have now been installed and are working wonderfully. I'll be back in a couple days with some pictures of the beautiful new windows in situ.

  1. It’s a good thing that you noticed the damages earlier on. That way, you can do something about it before it causes you any inconvenience. I can’t wait to see your new windows. I bet they’re going to make your house even more attractive. Great job!

  2. Vintage is beautiful! However, it’s a different story when it comes to handling old windows. They need to be taken care of as much as possible. Once they’re damaged, it can affect the rest of the house. the best thing to do is replace them. Safety and precaution should be at the top of the list, and you can start off by making sure that your windows are functional and have no damage whatsoever.

  3. Whew! Imagine what would’ve happened if you didn’t notice those rotten sills. That might’ve cost you even more money. That’s why it’s important to inspect your house thoroughly and keep an eye out for little damages that might get worse if left unnoticed.

  4. Your window looks adorable! Yeah, at first glance you wouldn’t notice that there is a problem, but when you look closer, the damage is already visible. Early detection of problems can prevent additional damage and save you from costly repairs. Invest on a new window and it’ll surely add appeal to your wonderful home.

  5. What kind of windows did you replace your old ones with? It is such a shame that you had to replace them; they look so beautiful from your pictures. But Roxie is right about prioritizing your safety and convenience. I’d like to see your new windows. I hope you post their pictures too. =)

  6. Good thing you were able to spot the problem right on! Although the damage maybe may be just a speck, it can lead to a serious problem if left unattended. The windows, like any other part of the house, is a very important facet of a property, and homeowners should take notice if there are damage, slips or any other irregularities on their windows. I think by now, you were able to install a new one? Hmm. I wonder what it looks like. Update us!
